Steel City Summary: July 11, 2011 - Power down to last chance, Pirates enjoy break, Hines Ward story gets deeper

- The Pittsburgh Power AFL Team are now 8-8 after a beating by the top-ranked Arizona Rattlers this past Sunday at CONSOL Energy Center.  The Power have been a surprise as an expansion team, and the team can still make the AFL Playoffs with a win in Cleveland next Friday and some help from the rest of the league.  The Power beat Cleveland at home earlier this season 35-32.  The team has been ravaged by injuries all season, leaving fans to wonder what this team could have done if they were healthy.  The Pittsburgh Power lead the AFL in home attendance, and have been a legit success in their rookie campaign.

Steel World Order wishes Head Coach Chris Siegfried and the Power good luck as they head to Cleveland to renew an age-old rivalry with the "Mistake by the Lake".

- Steelers WR Hines Ward continues to be lambasted by the local and national media as further details are released on the DUI charges he incurred in Georgia this past weekend.  New information is that Hines failed field sobriety tests administered after he was pulled over due to swerving and hitting a curb.  This is bad news for Steelers fans who have just gotten over the headlines with Ben Roethlisberger, James Harrison, and former Steeler Santonio Holmes last year.  Hines Ward is the face of this franchise, and hopefully he can say the right things to get his career back in the right direction.  I have said on here many times that I believe Hines Ward is a Hall of Famer, and this does not change that fact.  Knowing Hines, his most important priority is retaining the trust and love of Steeler Nation.  Hopefully, Steeler Nation supports him during this tough time in his life.

- The 2nd Place Pittsburgh Pirates are enjoying their well-deserved break after finishing the 1st half 47-43.  The Bucs will resume play in Houston after the break.  In the meantime, the National TV audience will be subject to the fantastic play of Andrew McCutchen, and hopefully the cannon arm of closer Joel Hanrahan.  Kevin Correia is a deserving All-Star as well, and it is very nice to see 3 Pirates in the game for the first time since 1990.  Go Get 'em Buccos!

- Progress is the word of the day on the NFL Lockout.  It seems many insiders believe that the issue will be resolved in time for training camps to open.  That leaves a limited time period for free agents Ike Taylor and Willie Colon to sign.  Colon will probably re-sign with the Steelers, but Taylor is a crapshoot.  I think I speak for all Steelers fans when I say that the possibility of William Gay and Bryant McFadden being our starting CB tandem scares the shit out of me.

So long, watch that All-Star game tomorrow night and cheer for your Bucs!
